Baptism celebration moment with water splash at Riverview Church

Baptism at Riverview Church

One of the most powerful moments in a believer's life — a public declaration that you belong to Jesus.

"Jump In the River. Encounter Jesus. Be Transformed."

What Is Baptism?

More than just a ritual — it's your public declaration of faith.

More Than a Ritual — A Declaration

Baptism doesn't save you — Jesus does. But baptism is the outward sign of an inward transformation. It's how you publicly say, "I'm all in with Jesus."

Going under the water represents dying to your old life. Coming back up represents walking in the new life Jesus won for you.

Why Full Immersion?

At Riverview, we baptize by full immersion — because that's how Jesus was baptized (Matthew 3:13-17) and how the early church practiced it (Acts 2:38-41).

If you've given your life to Jesus but haven't been baptized as a believer, this is your next step.

Who Is It For?

If You've Said Yes to Jesus — It's For You

For Believers of All Ages

Baptism is for anyone who has made a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ. There's no age minimum — just a genuine faith. For children, we simply want to make sure you understand what you're doing. We'll talk with you and your parents before the baptism date.

If You Were Baptized as an Infant

That was a beautiful act of dedication by your family — but believer's baptism is different. It's your own declaration, in your own voice, that Jesus is Lord. Your baptism celebrates your personal faith journey.

Your Personal Declaration

Baptism is about you stepping forward and saying yes to Jesus. It's a transformative moment for your faith, celebrated by your entire church family who will cheer you on.

Baptism Questions Answered

We're here to help. Here are answers to the most common questions we hear.

What if I was baptized as a child but never made a personal decision to follow Jesus?

We'd love for you to talk with us about your faith journey. If you've now made a personal commitment to Jesus, believer's baptism is absolutely for you. This would be your public declaration of faith in your own voice.

Is there an age minimum for baptism?

We baptize believers of all ages. For children, the main question is whether they have a genuine, personal faith in Jesus. We do ask to meet with children and their parents to make sure everyone is on the same page and understands what baptism means.

What do I need to bring? What will I wear?

We'll provide all the details you need. Most people wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting wet, and we have changing areas before and after. You might want to bring a towel and dry clothes to change into afterward.

Do I have to be baptized to be part of the church?

No. You're welcome at Riverview whether you're baptized or not. That said, baptism is such an important next step for anyone who's decided to follow Jesus. We encourage everyone who's made that commitment to take this step of faith.

What if I'm nervous about being baptized in front of people?

It's totally normal to feel nervous! Here's the beautiful part: everyone at Riverview will be cheering you on. This is a celebration, not a judgment. Talk with our baptism team about your feelings — we've baptized hundreds of people and know exactly how to make you feel comfortable and supported.

Can family and friends come watch my baptism?

Absolutely! We encourage you to invite everyone important to you. Your family and friends are welcome to watch and celebrate this incredible moment in your faith journey. Many people say their baptism day was one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives.
